Yokohama City Announces GREEN×EXPO 2027 and Mobility Initiatives at Smart City Expo World Congress 2025

The City of Yokohama exhibited at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 held in Barcelona, Spain from November 4 to 6, 2025. It promoted GREEN×EXPO 2027 and the Director of the European Office announced Yokohama’s mobility initiatives to local startups.

Insight into the Expo

The Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 is one of the world’s largest international conferences on smart cities. Under the theme “The Time for Cities,” it attracted over 27,000 participants from approximately 140 countries.

Yokohama City exhibited a booth to promote GREEN×EXPO 2027, which will be held in Yokohama in 2027. Furthermore, at a business seminar titled ‘Building a Sustainable Mobility Society: Utilising DX / Collaboration with Startups’, the Head of the European Office introduced Yokohama City’s urban challenges and initiatives concerning mobility, and engaged in networking with local authorities, startups, and other organisations.

Yokohama City, with a population of approximately 3.8 million, is advancing various initiatives towards sustainable urban development while deepening collaboration with domestic and international stakeholders, including local authorities and private companies. In 2025, it established the Tech Hub Yokohama, a growth support base for technology-based start-ups generating innovation.

The Asia Smart City Conference, focusing on advancing the circular economy and carbon neutrality, will be held from 25 to 27 November 2025. Furthermore, GREEN×EXPO 2027 will take place in Yokohama in 2027.

On August 21, the City of Yokohama Europe Representative Office visited the ICLEI European Secretariat in Freiburg to meet with Regional Director Wolfgang Teubner and ICLEI’s Circular Economy team and discussed about ongoing European projects, exchanged ideas and identified areas for collaboration.
