On May 15, a delegation from the People’s Committee of Dong Thap Province in Vietnam toured the Hokubu No. 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant in Yokohama City.
During the visit, the delegation observed both water treatment and sludge treatment processes. Participants showed strong interest in Yokohama’s advanced technologies, including the usage of activated sludge and initiatives related to energy generation.

Discussions were also held between staff from Yokohama and ten members of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, including Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Dieu. The talks focused on future technical cooperation. Yokohama officials had previously met Mr. Dieu during a business trip to Vietnam in November 2025, and the meeting progressed positively.
Through these exchanges, Yokohama and Dong Thap Province strengthened mutual understanding and built a valuable foundation for future partnership activities.

Dong Thap Province is located in the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam. While the province has experienced significant economic growth supported by agriculture and aquaculture, wastewater infrastructure development remains a major challenge. The City of Yokohama has been discussing potential technical cooperation with Dong Thap Province following a request from the Government of Vietnam through Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2024.
