City of Yokohama participated in the World Cities Summit (WCS) 2026, held in Singapore from 14 to 16 June 2026 and organized by Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). The summit is a leading global platform where city leaders, policymakers, academics, and business representatives exchange knowledge and explore practical solutions for sustainable urban development. Yokohama has been invited to participate since 2014.
This year’s theme, “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: ACT Now!,” brought together urban leaders and experts from around the world to discuss pressing urban challenges and develop actionable solutions. Discussions were organized across five thematic tracks, fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and technology partnerships.
Representing City of Yokohama, the Director General for Global Initiatives of the Policy Administration and International Affairs Bureau spoke at the invitation-only Mayors Forum, one of the summit’s flagship sessions. The presentation highlighted Yokohama’s approach to resilient urban water resource management, sharing the city’s experience and perspectives on strengthening urban resilience in the face of climate change and other emerging challenges.
The Director General also participated in a panel discussion entitled “Rejuvenating Heritage Properties for Vibrant Communities,” held under the theme of “Resilient & Regenerative Cities.” During the session, Yokohama introduced its vision for the Kamiseya area, which is being developed as the venue for GREEN×EXPO 2027. The presentation emphasized the city’s commitment to not only deliver a successful international exposition, but also to create a vibrant, sustainable, and accessible public space that will continue to benefit residents and visitors long after the event concludes.
Through its participation in WCS 2026, Yokohama reaffirmed its commitment to international collaboration and knowledge exchange, while sharing innovative urban development practices that contribute to building more sustainable and resilient cities worldwide.
