Three Yokohama-based companies will be participating in this year’s Bio Innovation Conference, hosted by Maryland Life Sciences, a division of the Maryland Tech Council. The startups will be joining through a trade mission sponsored by Kanagawa Prefecture and JETRO, the Japan External Trade Organization.

This year’s Bio Innovation Conference will be conducted virtually on October 5th and 6th, with opportunities for virtual partnering, a virtual exhibit hall featuring customizable booths, and live-streamed sessions with industry experts on relevant topics in the life sciences field. Kanagawa will be joining Canada, Victoria and New South Wales of Australia, and the Midlands Region of the UK in the conference’s Virtual International Trade Delegations, which were created through a partnership between Maryland Life Sciences and the Montgomery County EDC.

Kanagawa Prefecture and Maryland State have had a sister state relationship since 1981, a connection acknowledged through a recently renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the governors of the two regions in 2019. Yokohama is the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture, making Yokohama-based companies eligible to join the delegation.

Three Yokohama companies are set to attend:

  • CellFree Sciences Co., Ltd.

Protein Synthesis, Reagents Design, Development, Production and Sales, and more.
  • MabGenesis Inc.

Providing first-in-class and best-in-class therapeutic monoclonal antibodies both in human and animal health.
  • REPROCELL

Extensive human tissue network, RNA-based reprogramming and stem cell services, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, precision genome sequencing, drug discovery assays and 3D cell culture models, and more.
Maryland Bio Innovation Conference Virtual Booth - City of Yokohama

The City of Yokohama’s Virtual Booth created for the Bio Innovation Conference

In the event’s virtual Exhibit Hall, where attendees can scroll through the custom booths of participating companies and organizations, the Kanagawa delegation was split into two booths; CellFree Sciences (CFS)’s information is located in the first booth, with MabGenesis and REPROCELL joining the second booth.

The Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to the Americas will also be participating in the event to promote Yokohama’s life science ecosystem, support the participating companies, and raise awareness for other life science startups in Yokohama. One such company that will be featured at the Yokohama booth is:

  • Risk Measurement Technologies (RimTech)
Developing the “Mind Health Measurement System”, a fusion of healthcare and risk management, to easily measure mental health of employees using voice analysis
