From February 13 to 15, Dr. Jun Liu, the Vice President/Vice Provost for Global Affairs at the Stony Brook University in New York, visited Yokohama. During the visit, arranged through an overture made by the Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to the Americas, Dr. Liu met with Mayor Fumiko Hayashi and with several local universities at their campuses, and took part in discussions on the possibility of establishing exchanges between Yokohama institutions and Stony Brook University and on potentially providing support for study abroad or startup entrepreneur programs.
Stony Brook University belongs to the prestigious Association of American Universities alongside Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and is a leading U.S. institution that has prominent faculty members including Nobel Laureates and features strong schools of medicine and engineering. It is now actively exploring comprehensive, strategic partnerships with universities in Yokohama.
The Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to the Americas serves as a hub to set up foreign exchange opportunities, support startup businesses, and enable in-depth exchange between academic institutions.
