Yokohama City’s unique qualities and location make it an extremely attractive destination for doing business in Japan, leading to many domestic and international companies taking notice and establishing locations in the quickly-developing bay area. This is especially visible within the automobile industry: 13 of the world’s top 30 automotive suppliers have established R&D bases in Yokohama, Japan, leading to a cumulative expansion of the industry within the city. Now, 7 global automotive and auto-related companies like Ducati Japan and Polaris Japan have decided to join them in Yokohama over the span of 2019.
Mayor Fumiko Hayashi visits New York to promote Yokohama, Japan and strengthen global intercity relations
Yokohama City Mayor Fumiko Hayashi traveled to New York, delivering a lecture at Stony Brook University and promoting the opening of Yokohama’s new NYC-based representative office. The Mayor, alongside a delegation from Yokohama including leaders from the Yokohama City Council, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and municipal government, arrived in New York City last Sunday, kicking off a packed three-days of intercity promotion and exchange. The impetus for this trip was the opening ceremony being held for the new Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to the Americas, which was established in New York City late last year.
