The City of Yokohama, one of Japan’s most dynamic innovation hubs, is inviting international startups, scaleups, and advanced technology companies to take advantage of new financial incentives to establish or expand operations in Yokohama. Under the FY2025 Next-Generation Strategic Sector Location Promotion Subsidy program, companies entering key growth sectors can receive up to ¥3 million in subsidy incentives, with additional bonuses for green and sustainable operations.

Subsidies Available
Eligible Sectors Include:
- Clean Energy and Decarbonization (hydrogen, renewables, batteries, carbon recycling)
- Semiconductors (design, manufacturing, inspection equipment)
- Mobility and Transportation (autonomous vehicles, EVs, drones, personal mobility)
- IT and Telecommunications (software, gaming, AI, cybersecurity, SaaS)
- Health and Medical (pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotech)
- Advanced Technology (robotics, quantum computing, aerospace, new materials)
- Childcare and Education Tech
For companies establishing their first office in Yokohama:
- Up to ¥3 million in subsidies available
- Reduced requirements for tech startups and foreign-affiliated companies:
- Tech startups: Minimum 10m² office space. (Service offices eligible)
- Foreign-affiliated companies locating outside central business districts: No employee number requirement
For Yokohama-based companies expanding or relocating within the city:
- Additional subsidy incentives for businesses increasing office size and workforce
- Sustainability bonus: companies in the Minato Mirai 21 District achieving net-zero CO₂ electricity use may receive up to an additional ¥1.5 million
Simple and Accessible Application Process
- Companies must submit a brief Business Plan Summary before signing any lease agreements, and by December 31, 2025
- After starting the business, final grant applications and required documents must be submitted by January 30, 2026
