In March of 2019, to support the job-search efforts of international students in Japan, the City of Yokohama held the first of many job fairs for international students.
Job fairs for international students can be extremely effective at connecting job-seekers with potential employers. At this event, valuable information was provided for international students interested in searching for a job in Yokohama, such as advice from former international students currently working with Japanese companies, and explanations from recruiters.
Yokohama, in partnership with Yokohama National University, Yokohama City University, and the city’s economic organizations and international exchange organizations, was chosen for the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “International Student Employment Promotion Program.” With the goal of raising the employment rate of foreign international students within Japan, the City of Yokohama is developing programs to address international students’ Japanese language education, career education, and internship opportunities.
The Yokohama population has the one of the highest percentages of post-graduate technical professionals in Japan, and the city is the home of many cutting-edge industry leaders. To respond to the needs of international students wishing to work in Yokohama, the City will continue to hold job fairs for international students in the future.
