The beginning of November was marked with two exciting developments between the City of Yokohama and New York City. The NYC-based Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to the Americas began partial operations, and WeWork, a leading office space-sharing company headquartered in NYC, opened one of its newest locations in the Minato Mirai 21 district in Yokohama. To recognize the opening of these two new establishments that will strengthen bonds between the two cities, the City of Yokohama and WeWork co-hosted an event at WeWork Times Square on November 8.

In the event, the Director General of the Economic Affairs Bureau of the City of Yokohama introduced the various drivers of Yokohama’s prosperity and growth to the audience, including the clustering of companies, universities and R&D facilities in Minato Mirai 21 and other areas as well as the abundance of high skilled workers in the region. In addition, he shared the city’s latest initiatives carried out in collaboration with local companies and universities to accelerate innovation and spur further growth of the city economy.

The event was well-attended by WeWork members and Japan-related organizations in NYC and provided an opportunity for attendees to network with each other as well as personnel from the City of Yokohama’s brand new NYC office.
