Yokohama was the only municipality to participate in 4th Sustainability Week Asia, hosted by Economist Impact and held in Bangkok on March 25-26, 2025. Under the theme “From Idealism to Pragmatism,” the event brought together more than 1,000 sustainability leaders from around the world for in-depth discussions on key issues driving change in the business sector. Achieving Net Zero, sustainable energy transition, promoting a circular economy, sustainable resource management, and changing role of the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) are all critical themes for driving government and business growth in an era of inevitable change.
The theme of the panel discussion, in which the City of Yokohama took the stage, was “Creating a Circular City,” and Yokohama, as Asia’s environmentally advanced city, emphasized the role that cities can play to promote a circular economy by seeking the understanding and cooperation of residents and presenting successful examples of environmental initiatives that utilize private sector technology and city-to-city cooperation in Southeast Asia.
