Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to Southeast and South Asia

Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to Southeast and South Asia opened in Bangkok, Thailand

My name is Masafumi Shinagawa. I started my new position as Chief Representative of the Office of the City of Yokohama Representative to Southeast and South Asia in August 2022. I worked as a planner at a foreign-affiliated company that produces online community services, and then joined the City of Yokohama in April 2010. I’ve been involved in the formation of new measures for the city in the fields of welfare and policy. Since moving to the International Affairs Bureau, I have been working on organizing the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) and developing international relations between Southeast and South Asia.

This office is Yokohama’s overseas office with jurisdiction over the Southeast and South Asia regions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to move our base from Mumbai, India to Bangkok, Thailand. I am excited to be the first chief representative of this new office, located in a market area that is drawing attention around the world. Taking advantage of the experience gained in India, we will strive to be a bridge and link between Southeast and South Asia and Yokohama, such as supporting companies in Yokohama and attracting companies based in Southeast Asia to Yokohama.

The office is located in the Japan Desk of the Department of Industrial Promotion (DIPROM) in Thailand. Please feel free to contact us.
