On May 29th and 30th, the City of Yokohama co-sponsored the “EU-Japan Subnational Climate Action Workshop: Exchanges between Cities in Europe and Japan – Opportunities for a Resilient Future” organized by The Delegation of the European Union to Japan (EUD) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
This workshop was held with the intent of connecting the promotion of regional climate change policies to the mutual exchange of successful past initiatives of decarbonization in Japanese and European cities.
On May 29th, the Mayor of Yokohama Takeharu Yamanaka participated in the opening session, which also featured Mikael Horstmann, Deputy Mayor of Frankfurt, Germany (online), François Croquette, Director of Ecological Transition and Climate, City of Paris, France, and Grégory Doucet, Mayor of Lyon (Video Message). The participation from each city was triggered by the top sales activities conducted by Mayor Yamanaka during his visit to Germany and France last fiscal year through the local support of the Europe Representative Office (Frankfurt Office), among other sources.
Yokohama will continue to seize these opportunities to further strengthen inter-city collaboration in the field of decarbonization and to create international networks, as well as contributing to the enhancement of the City’s international presence and the promotion of decarbonization in the international community.
