The giant moving Gundam in Yokohama will now be around until 2024!

by | Mar 13, 2023

Great news for fans! The duration of the giant 4-story tall mech’s visit to Yokohama has been extended until 2024. The Gundam Factory exhibition, featuring a “life size” moving Gundam (which in this case means a whopping 59ft tall!), was unveiled in Yokohama, Japan and opened to the public in 2020.

At the time, the project was only slated to be open for two years, until 2022. However, due to concerns about the COVID-19 global pandemic, and international travel restrictions, many fans were unable to travel to Japan during this initial period. The Gundam Factory project announced its first extension to March 2023, and thanks to the loosening of Japan’s travel restrictions in October 2022, this meant that international fans excited to see a real-life moving giant robot now had an approximately half-year long window to visit Japan before the Gundam would leave Yokohama’s shores. However, the newest extension of the project’s timeframe means that travelers and tourists now have until March 31, 2024 to travel to Yokohama, Japan to see this one-of-a-kind attraction.

And once you arrive in Japan, getting to Yokohama is easy and quick, with several options of train and bus lines bringing travelers from Haneda international airport or central Tokyo to Yokohama in around 30 minutes. While in Yokohama, tourists can explore the city’s unique blend of international cultures, like Japan’s largest Chinatown, alongside traditional Japanese attractions like the famous Sankeien Gardens, a ramen museum, and the futuristic “Minato Mirai” port area.
